The short game in golf is very important and it is an essential part of the game. It typically starts from 20 feet from the green patch of the golf course. It basically requires a good chip shot through out a short game to complete the game successfully. Chip shot is also a key part of a normal game of golf. Imagine you take a perfect swing shot which lands your golf ball near to the green and now it has all come down to your chip shot. If you are not able to execute your chip shot perfectly or even if it is not good enough, you might lose the game. So it is important that you learn to control and master your chip shots. Short games provide a great opportunity to learn and practice chip shots. Following are some tips which will help you to learn chip shots and master them in a short game.
• Your grip on the golf club should be lower than your normal grip on the golf club. In this way, your arms would make a triangle with your shoulders. Your feet should be in line with the golf ball. The majority of your weight should be on the non dominant feet of your body i.e. if you are a right hander than the majority of your weight should be on the left foot.
• Keep your head over the ball.
• Make your chest and arms do the work when you are taking the chip shot. Your arms should go into a half back swing or less, depending on the distance you have to cover with the shot. Your arms should maintain the triangle with the shoulder when you are taking the chip shot. Your arms will move like a pendulum while hitting the ball.
Practice these steps next time when you are playing a short game. Your chip shots will improve with these tips which will have a positive effect on your overall game.
